SSSC is a partner in this project with the Cultural Centre which will run from this April to January 2025. The SSSC Troubadours will be performing on the first Social Sunday event on Sunday, April 28 at 2:00 pm at the Cultural Centre. This is a free admission event. On April 6th, Sharon, a member present at the breakfast, shared the 50/50 pot of $171. This month’s breakfast is sponsored by two members in celebration of all Mothers. Forum- Wednesday, May 8 at 3:00 pm. Guest presenter, Hillary Lemon, from the Fredericton Public Library. The presentation will include system collection (books and beyond); services accessible form home and on-line; programming, and the opportunity to register for membership. Note: Forum- New Canadian Dental Plan- Rescheduled to Wednesday, May 15 at 3:00 pm. Presenter is Sylvia Cummings from Service Canada. This is the follow-up information session that we requested when the Federal Minister made his presentation on March 8th. Community Food Smart at Stepping Stone Senior Centre Did you know that SSSC is one of many registered distributors for the Community Food Smart (CFS) program in Fredericton? The CFS is a bulk food buying club open to all individuals and families keen on purchasing quality fruits and vegetables at wholesale prices, sourced from local farmers when possible. To become a member, you fill out a registration form. Forms are available at SSSC. The one-time registration fee is $10 CASH. Orders are made by emailing mcfarrell53@gmail.com on the first Thursday of the month. The price of each food bag is $15. Members can order one or two bags each month. The produce bag must be picked up at SSSC on the second Thursday of the month. On May 1 we need the volunteer to climb a ladder to reach the sign and place our ad. Another volunteer will be there with you. If you are willing, please call the Centre as soon as possible. Thanks! From the Centre For Innovation And Research in Aging- A presentation on: The Passive Aware Research study that is looking to recruit caregivers of older adults with memory loss to participate in a research study that looks to see if passive monitoring technology can reduce caregiver burden and stress. New Programs Stringed Instruments Maintenance Workshop- One time session( no cost), with Marc Schneider. Wednesday, April 10th at 2:45pm to 3:45pm. Using some of his own instruments, Marc will demonstrate action evaluation (height of strings above fretboard), intonation (being in tune up the fretboard) and finding the source of rattling or buzzing on a string. He can also discuss how to change or modify nuts and saddles. If you bring an instrument, he can assist you. Scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 from 1:30 to 2:15 pm. You just need a telephone( cell or landline). The Topic will be The Dictionary of Flowers. Spring is coming and flowers are on our minds. We invite those interested in participating or know of someone who might like to connect with others and try it out. How does it work? 1. You call the Centre- 506-450-7849 or 506-668-0141. Leave your name and phone number by 4:00 pm on Monday, March 18. 2. You will receive a call back from Madeleine confirming your participation and to answer any questions you may have. We would love to have up to 10 participants to start. 3. Before the 1:30 pm start time of the program on Tuesday, you will be called and connected with the other participants. It is then your choice as to your level of participation. You may ask questions of the Facilitator, Lyne Ouellet, add your comments or just listen in and enjoy the meanings of Flowers. Our hope is to develop a monthly calendar to include time and day of the week as well as the topic. Help With Technology – Friday, March 22nd 10:30am is out last scheduled session.
